Unequal pay for women is a known issue across the United States. Here are some unequal pay statistics according to gender and race.

Gender Wage Gap Statistics

For employees doing the same job with the same experience and commitment, women still make only $0.98 for every $1.00 a man makes. This difference grows astronomically in the grand scheme of salary wages.

On average, women of all races earned only $0.82 cents for every $1.00 earned by men. This amounts to women making an average of $10,000 less than their male counterparts each year. Over the course of a woman’s 40-year career, she would make over $400,000 less than her male counterparts.

Across the entire country, 55 million women work full-time and earned roughly $550 billion less than their male counterparts in 2019. Each woman made about $10,000 less than her male counterparts in that year.

The gender wage gap exists in almost every field or profession. The wage gap is highest among highly educated professions. Women with bachelor’s degrees are “paid 26% less than their male counterparts.”

Gender and Race Wage Gap

The gender wage gap is wider for most women of color. For every $1.00 made by a white man, white women made $0.79, black women made $0.62, Hispanic or Latina women made $0.54, and indigenous women made $0.57.

On average, Asian women made $0.90 for every $1.00 earned by a white man, but there are greater discrepancies among different Asian nationalities. For every $1.00 earned by a white man, Filipino women earned $0.83, Tongan women earned $0.75, and Nepali women earned $0.50.

Women, especially black and Latina women, are more likely to work in low-wage jobs, which contributes to wage inequality.
